Mojo Monday 3/11/13

Mojo Monday - Happy Birthday...AGAIN!

I am getting better. This time I did the Mojo Monday post on Tuesday! One week I am actually going to do it on Monday. This week I did another birthday card, but that is because I actually did it for my mom to give to a coworker for her birthday. She said their birthday was the day before Spring and that the woman was excited about that so I thought why not add a little Spring into the card!

Here is the 3/11/13 Sketch...

And here is my version...

This card was a little extra work. A LOT of layers and elements! As you can see, I deviated a little from the sketch, but that is ok, it is allowed! It is really supposed to be used for inspiration. If I had a scallop punch (the flower looking shape in the sketch), I may have stuck to the circle, but I didn't so I switched it up!

I used 5 different kinds of paper:

Stampin Up:
- Melon Mambo
- Pumpkin Pie
- Daffodil Delights

The white card base was Michael's Brand Recollections "Speciality" cardstock - impressive how strong it is! They only had about 7 colors that were that "special" kind, the rest were flimsy and I would never use it to make a card. The white part that the happy birthday is on is actually a textured white paper from a "Scrap Pack" I got from Hobby Lobby.

The three brads I got from Michaels as well. It was a pack of black, gold, silver, and I think bronze brads.

The Happy Birthday stamp and Flower Basket...I think I got from Hobby Lobby.

The border punch was a lender from a friend.

The ribbon I had in my stash from LONG ago when my aunt gave me all of her crafts before moving back up North.

Oh and the coloring in that Flower Basket...I DID THAT! I used the Stampin Up Markers, the three colors above, plus Old Olive (all colors are in the Brights collection). You can't see the green in the picture, but I used it to color in the leaves on the flowers. I also used a Blender Pen on the flowers (Hobby Lobby) and a Versa Marker (Hobby Lobby) which I used to make the basket pop up from the card without actually adding any color.

The white part the Happy Birthday is stamped on was cut using my BigKick Machine...LOVE IT...and a the "Deckled Rectangles Large" Spellbinders Nestabilities die cuts. I swear this machine is freaking amazing and opens up so many possibilities!

Lastly, I used Stazon Ink (black) to stamp in. I find it to be very crisp and I didn't really want any color since my card was colorful enough!

So there it is...what I used and what for in a nutshell! I think this is what I will do going forward for my card posts. I found it helpful when surfing the net to see what people who were card makers actually used in making their cards.

Oh and by the way, I didn't win the March contest :-(. They posted the winners tonight, there were like six I think.

I also post a lot of my "creations" on Pintrest so check out my boards here. I also have boards for techniques I find, ideas I would like to try AND ideas I did try!

Can't wait for the next Mojo Monday already! I also just got put onto another challenge site called Paper Playtime so check that out as well. I love these because it takes you out of your comfort zone and gives you great ideas that you may not have thought about before!

Anyway...Happy Card Making!
